Here is a wonderful update from long-term volunteer in Kenya, Matt. And a huge thank you to our donor from Canada!

Open Arms Academy Enters the 21st Century

This past week at the Open Arms Village, the school received a donation of eight wonderful newly refurbished
Macintosh Computers from a donor in Canada. The children have been elated to learn how to use the
electronic keyboard, write assignments electronically, and especially learn how to play computer games. The computers are also set up with a wonderful educational program which teaches the younger children basic math and
reading skills. This is the first opportunity any of these children have had to use any computer so it is all very exciting and new to the children. In addition, only one of the teachers has ever used a computer before, and no other employees at the village have had any opportunity or experience using computers before. Nevertheless, this computer will give these children a clear advantage in learning how to use technology that most children in Kenya never have the opportunity to learn. It would not be overstating our case to suggest that we may have the finest computer lab of any primary or high school in Kenya, and we probably have a better equipped computer lab than nearly all universities in Kenya.

4 of the computers have built in webcams! :)

The kids were loving the built in “Photo Booth” software to take funny pictures of themselves.

Once they have internet they will be able to Skype back to their sponsors.
