Staying in touch

14th April, 2010 - Posted by Nancy Winn -

This morning I had a two hour meeting with my colleague, Linda, to work on the bookkeeping for Open Arms. Of course, I was in my kitchen in Oregon and she was in her home in Eldoret, Kenya. Perhaps it is because I am old enough to have learned how to use a slide rule and make copies with carbon paper. I don’t take working with a team member on the other side of the world for granted. It is truly a blessing. There are the days when the power or internet is not operating properly but when they are it is amazing. And, in case you are not familiar with Skype, the video conferencing capability Linda and I were using is FREE. You can never beat that price. I remember dividing up the long distance phone charges with my suitemates in college. A 5 minute phone call to a city 150 miles away was $4 around bucks.

Our world has effectively grown smaller because we can communicate so easily with just about anyone anywhere in the world. Now my challenge is to make the most of this technical blessing. Tonight I am going to call a friend far away and see how she is doing. I hope she hears the love of Christ coming through me.
