economics of a growing youth population

Read a really interesting article today in the Daily Nation, a newspaper from Kenya, about the need to incorporate the youth into the workforce. With those aged 14-30 making up more than 36 percent of the population and over 750,000 of them joining the labor market each year, it’s becoming a capacity problem in Kenya. There aren’t enough jobs for those already in the workforce, let a lone enough to accomodate such an influx.  As the article states, President Kibaki has recognized the issue and has unveiled a plan to address it by creating partnerships with those in the private and public sectors.  Â
