Now that I have seen…

One of my favorite songs is “Albertine” by Brooke Fraser. She’s a Christian singer/songwriter from New Zealand and her stuff is amazing. The inspiration for this song came after a trip to Rwanda where she met a young orphan girl named Albertine. Here’s the chorus:
Now that I have seen, I am responsible
Faith without deeds is dead
Now that I have held you in my own arms, I cannot let go till you are
The rest of the song talks about how she cannot help but tell the world about what she’s seen. I just love her message here, because I can really identify with it. Now that I have seen the faces of our kids in Kenya and heard their stories, how can I sit back and do nothing? I can’t, and we can’t. As Christians, we are responsible to follow Christ’s command to not only remember “the least of these”, but to take ACTION to help them. We do this - even if we are oceans away - by sacrificing our time and money, and by telling the world what we’ve seen.
Here are the rest of the lyrics - I really encourage you to download the song off her website: www.brookefraser.com!
I am sitting still
I think of Angelique
her mothers voice over me
And the bullets in the wall where it fell silent
And on a thousandth hill, I think of Albertine
there in her eyes what i don’t see with my own
Rwanda
[CHORUS]
Now that I have seen, I am responsible
Faith without deeds is dead
Now that I have held you in my own arms, I cannot let go till you are
I am on a plane across a distant sea
But I carry you in me
and the dust on, the dust on, the dust on, thee dust on, the dust on my feet
Rwanda
[CHORUS]
I will tell the world, I will tell them where I’ve been
I will keep my word
I will tell them Albertine
Rwanda
[CHORUS]
I am on a stage, a thousand eyes on me
I will tell them, Albertine
I will tell them, Albertine
