Last night, David and Rachel Gallagher, founders of OAI, shared about their vision for Open Arms and why they founded this organization.
According to the World Bank, more than half of Kenyans live below the poverty line, living on less than $1 per day. Most children don’t eat every day, sleep on a dirt floor, and have never visited a or dentist. More than 2 million children in Kenya are orphaned as a result of AIDS. David and Rachel traveled to Kenya for the first time in 2003 and felt compelled to do something about the poverty they witnessed.
One of the first things they did in Kenya was run medical clinics. And five years later, they are bringing hope of a better life to thousands of Kenyans. “If it was your child, would you want to know that there’s someone like Open Arms there to help your kid and get your kid off the street? Probably. That’s why we do what we do,” said David.
Tomorrow we’ll learn about the Open Arms Village, giving kids a permanent home. Tune in during the 10 o’clock news to KPTV FOX 12 Oregon.
