From rhinos to wheelbarrows
1st July, 2009 - Posted by Camille Cotton -
Well, here we all are in Eldoret, helping with construction on the Village site. Having arrived on Sunday night, the team (minus Helen H., who hadn’t arrived at that point, and Dave and Linda who had gone ahead to Eldoret) spent Monday and half of Tuesday experiencing a variety of Nairobi treats, including shops, giraffe center, and elephant orphanage -which also has a baby rhino who decided to play ‘charge the tourist’ just for a bit of fun (Nobody was hurt, but lots of scope for stories afterward)!
Having flown up to Eldoret on Tuesday evening, Wednesday consisted of having Helen H. join the team, then spending the day at the Village site. After a tour in the morning, the afternoon saw us all shoveling mounds of dirt from one place to another to help start the landscaping process around the children’s homes. There will be lots of aching muscles tonight, as everybody worked so hard loading trailers with earth, filling wheelbarrows, unloading trailers, emptying wheelbarrows….
It is so exciting to see the homes actually being built and to see the vision we have heard about becoming a reality. Tomorrow is more dirt shoveling for some, and preparing medical clinics for others, but for tonight there is a Chinese meal to come, and then a long sleep I expect.
Until the next installment,
Helen H.

Lovely to hear about your busy days and all the wonderful work you are beginning to be involved in. Good to hear that Helen has arrived safely with the rest of the group.
Love to Helen and especially little sis, I would have loved to have seen her pushing a wheel barrow!
Take good care of each other.
