The Eco Evangelist in Kenya

8th June, 2009 - Posted by Helen Harrison -

Here’s proof that I actually had a quietish Sunday this week: I got time to read the paper enough to find a fabulous article that I woud like to recommend. The Eco Evangelist is about an American guy who has gone out to Kenya to raise awareness, and do something about, ecological issues; and is using the Bible as his main teaching tool.

The results he is getting are very impressive, and in a church-based country like Kenya, he is making progress where no other environmentalists have been able to get any in-roads. It is certainlt food for thought for the team out at the Open Arms Village as well, as they consider the farming side of things, and working with the local community.

Whatever side of the climate change fence you sit on, it is definitely worth a read, and as it was written for a mainstream national newspaper, it is accessible whatever your faith or none.

One quote to tempt you:”The deeply embedded view is that Christ is returning soon, so why should we care for the environment? Well, what if I had a child with leukaemia and I said to my wife, ‘We don’t need to give him food because he’s going to die anyway’? Man, it’s the same thing!”

So, without further ado, the weblink for the full article is:http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/jun/07/eco-evangelist-craig-sorley

Have a good read, and a good week!
